Veteran Ayurvedic expert Dr. Pooja Kohli suggests the following time-tested Ayurvedic tips to alleviate the challenges faced by women suffering from PCOS, which affects thousands of women worldwide:

1. Include Ayurvedic herbs in your diet: Ashoka, Vijaya, Shatabari are renowned for regulating hormonal imbalances, reducing inflammation and promoting healthy menstrual flow. Additionally, a study has shown that treatment with Vijaya has a positive effect on the treatment of PCOS. These herbs, often consumed as teas or supplements, provide a natural and gentle alternative to conventional pain medications.

2. Include anti-inflammatory foods: Women with PCOS are advised to consume a diet that supports hormonal balance. This includes including anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and ginger. Limiting caffeine intake helps control insulin sensitivity, avoiding processed foods and refined sugars, and choosing low-fat dairy sources can provide essential nutrients without excess saturated fat.

4. Integrate oil massage into daily life: Ayurvedic therapies, such as Abhayanga (self-massage with hot oil) are beneficial for PCOS. To relieve symptoms, use natural oils such as sesame, coconut or almond on the scalp, face, neck, shoulders, arms and torso. Post-massage, let the oil sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes before taking a hot bath or shower to increase absorption.
